Marc-Andre Fleury finally won game No. 552 of his career earlier this week, as the Minnesota Wild defeated the New York Islanders 5-0.
Fleury recently played the 1,000th game of his career, and he’s destined for the Hall of Fame once he retires.
With the win against the Islanders, Fleury surpassed Patrick Roy for sole possession of the No. 2 spot in career wins for goalies, only behind Martin Brodeur.
But now, a former NHL tough guy claims that one legendary goalie is wrongly being left out of the discussion of the greatest goalie of all time.
Matthew Barnaby, who played 834 NHL games, claims that no one—not Marc-Andre Fleury, Martin Brodeur, or Patrick Roy—comes close to six-time Vezina Trophy winner Dominik Hasek.
“In my opinion, people can point to Marty Brodeur or Patrick Roy and listen; if you played with them, I understand; we always have loyalty that way. Dom is by far, in my opinion, the best goaltender to ever f—king play the game,” Barnaby said.
“To me, there’s no one even close. Not even remotely close.”
But what’s even more surprising is that Barnaby absolutely hated Hasek. They played together in Buffalo, and he claims the Dominator was the worst teammate he ever had.
“Dominik is the best of all time, but teammate? Damn, the s–t I saw this guy do and pull with teammates and fans. Listen, he’s not a great dude at all, and I say great that’s not what I want to use. This guy could be a serial douchebag at times.”
Barnaby goes so far as saying he wouldn’t ’piss on him if he was on fire.’
”Now, I’m sure he’s 75 years old now and a lot better, but no, I wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.”
