Marc-Andre Fleury is tied for second in career goalie wins and is on a quest to claim sole possession of second place.
Everyone’s waiting for Fluery to win No. 552 of his career and break the tie with Patrick Roy. And when it happens, the Minnesota Wild wants it to be at home.
Fleury had started Minnesota’s five previous games before Wednesday, going 1-4-0, after Filip Gustavsson was injured in late December.
On Wednesday, against the Dallas Stars on the road, another Swede, Jesper Wallstedt, was given his NHL debut in goal.
The Wild host Philadelphia on Friday and Arizona on Saturday as Fleury hopes to surpass Patrick Roy.
But although Fleury didn’t get the start against the Stars on Wednesday, he still stopped by TNT’s microphone for a pre-game interview, and as always, it was absolutely golden.
Often, it’s analyst Paul Bissonnette chirping the active players, but this time, Fleury took a huge dig at BizNasty about his yellow teeth.
”I need to get your teeth guy, I have some yellow ones on the side. You got a guy?” Bissonnette first said to Fleury.
Fleury started laughing, before hilariously responding:
”Not so much … just brush your teeth,” he said, still laughing.
Before saying goodbye to the crew and the viewers at home, Fleury suddenly interrupted to give some praise to Henrik Lundqvist.
”I just want to say: I miss playing against Hank. We had so many good battles, I’m missing all that, definitely.”
Jesper Wallstedt didn’t have the best NHL debut. He allowed seven goals against the Stars, and it would be a huge shock if Fleury didn’t get both starts in the Wild’s upcoming two games at home.
And what a moment it will be when Flower eventually gets sole possession of the No. 2 spot in wins for goalies.
