Sidney Crosby is a future Hall of Famer and a Pittsburgh Penguins cult hero.
He’s been the face of the franchise since they selected him first overall in the 2005 draft, and since then, he’s led the Penguins to three Stanley Cups, and he’s recorded more than 1,500 points.
Sidney Crosby has had some of his very best years taken away from him due to injuries, and despite this, he’s put up some of the best numbers the NHL has ever seen.
Even at 36, Sidney Crosby is on pace for close to 50 goals and over 80 points, which speaks volumes about his qualities as a player.
Sidney Crosby recently said in an interview, talking about his long-time rivalry with Alex Ovechkin, that neither of them is close to being done.
Both players still produce goals and points at a high pace, so we’ll probably see both for a few more years. But will we see Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh until he retires?
Now, an NHL insider claims the answer to that is probably no.
Sidney Crosby has a contract with the Penguins over the next season as well, and now, there are rumors that Crosby could end up on another NHL team after his contract expires.
Steve Dangle, a hockey YouTuber and podcast host, now claims that he’s ’heard whispers’ about the two teams that could be in the race to sign Crosby after the Pens captain’s contract expires in 2025.
“All the whispers I’ve heard over, I would say, the last three years or four years, there’s a solid chance he would end his career somewhere other than Pittsburgh,” Dangle said. “Montreal is one name that I’ve heard out there, and then joining MacKinnon in Colorado.”
Many have always taken it for granted that Crosby would retire in Pittsburgh. But over the years, a lot of players have played for another team in their final years.
Players like Mats Sundin and Martin Brodeur both played with their respective teams throughout their whole careers, just to give it one last go with a different organization before they retired.
