It’s been an exceptional year for NHL rookies, and no one has performed better than Connor Bedard.
He was this summer’s No. 1 pick, selected by the Chicago Blackhawks, and entered the league with extremely high expectations.
Bedard is a generational talent, but he’s not the only rookie who’s kickstarted his NHL career.
The No. 2 pick, Leo Carlsson, selected by the Anaheim Ducks, has also started his career great, and the No. 3 pick, Adam Fantilli, has also proven to be ready for the big league, despite his young age.
Connor Bedard is the new superstar of the NHL, and the Blackhawks entered Sunday’s matchup with the Washington Capitals, having won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The Blackhawks came out flying on Sunday as well and had several early chances against veteran goalie Darcy Kuemper.
The Blackhawks failed to convert the chances, and after getting a 1-0 lead, they allowed three straight goals and eventually lost 4-2.
But Connor Bedard had another great game, and with his two assists, he increased his hold on the NHL rookie scoring lead. The 18-year-old now has 11 goals and 12 assists in 27 games, and on Sunday, he had perhaps the best play of his NHL career with a breathtaking assist to Connor Murphy.
With the Blackhawks trailing 4-1, Bedard set up a play, and with a straight-up filthy backhand cross-ice pass, Murphy scored the Blackhawks’ second of the game.
The video of Bedard’s assist quickly went viral on social media, with everyone absolutely loving the amazing play.
”Dude is a future Superstar,” one said.
”Bedard genuinely does this quite a bit, but usually his teammates can never put it in the net,” another said.
”That was a disgusting play all around,” a third added.
”His vision is insane,” a fourth said.
