It wasn’t an ordinary night for Tristan Jarry.
The Pittsburgh Penguins won 4-2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and the goalie managed to score the last goal of the game with just over a minute left, getting hold of the puck and firing it into an empty net.
It was just the 17th goalie goal in NHL history, including the playoffs, and Jarry also became the first goalie in Pittsburgh Penguins history to achieve it.
And it was not hard to figure out how much his teammates enjoyed it, as they all immediately mobbed him on the ice.
Jarry said it was the ‘perfect scenario,’ and that there was also some luck involved. But it wasn’t Jarry’s first NHL goal. He also scored with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2018.
“It’s pretty neat, honestly. It’s something that doesn’t happen very often. There are very few that have done it, so it’s something definitely pretty cool, but honestly, the win means more,” Jarry said.
Jarry also made 39 saves in the victory but also drew attention from fans before his goal.
Early in the first period, a big scrum broke out just near Jarry’s goal. Jarry skated toward the scrum, and as Brandon Hagel was busy shoving several Pittsburgh players, Jarry simply stole his stick. Luckily, replays showed what happened because nobody on the ice saw what was happening.
The referees were all focused on the scrum, watching the players closely. So Jarry saw an opportunity to pull off a savage move.
He took Hagel’s stick and simply slammed it against his goalpost, breaking it to pieces. Luckily for him, nobody noticed what Jarry was doing, as he would have certainly been penalized for it.
On social media, fans found Jarry’s savage move absolutely hilarious, and we totally agree.
In more ways than one, Tristan Jarry was undoubtedly the star of the evening!
