Only a week into the NHL season, Vegas has caused quite a rift on social media after making a joke on Twitter.
The Golden Knights’ social media account has been known to make wise-cracking jokes on the platform, but some people think their newest joke is sexist and went too far.
Before their scheduled contest against the Boston Bruins, Vegas tweeted out the starting lineup for the ‘Broons.’
The only issue is that none of the names listed were Boston forwards. The club listed names of women and Twitter went nuts. Users were suggesting that the joke was misogynistic and the joke was that the other team were all girls.
Defended the tweet
Vegas defended themselves by saying the names listed were from the 2012 movie ‘Ted.’ The movie takes places in Boston and the team was making a reference to the movie and Mark Wahlberg scene where he lists the names Vegas used above. Still, even with the explanation, fans and Twitter users asked why the team would use a reference from a movie that was made 5-years ago, but the backlash didn’t make the social media account flinch.
They didn’t delete the tweet and spent the rest of the game tweeting in a ‘Boston’ accent.
The NHL has not commented on the post, and the Golden Knights went on to defeat the Bruins 3-1.

You do realize this whole line of tweets is awfully demeaning to women. You are clearly insinuating that males > females.
