Ryan Reaves has had a busy start to the season, with two fights in his first two games. And Reaves was on the hunt to make it three in three in Monday’s contest with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The game between the Blackhawks and the Maple Leafs was testy, starting in the first period with Noah Gregor hitting Nikita Zaitsev, leading to Gregor dropping the gloves with Connor Murphy.
Not long after, Reaves wanted in on the fun as well, and he had a clear target on his mind: Corey Perry. Reaves and Perry started an intensive argument right next to their respective benches, and luckily for everyone watching the game, the chirping between the players was caught on camera.
And it was absolutely hilarious to hear Reaves trying to trigger Perry enough for him to drop the gloves.
“Why do you think I give a f–k what you say? Huh? What, what are you gonna do about it?” Reaves said, according to accounts on X.
“Never back it up though. Never f–king back it up, never,” he continued.
Reaves didn’t get Perry involved in the action, not even in the second period when the two were involved in another incident. As Perry was turtling on the ice, Reaves held him down to the ice, and it was obvious Reaves was trying to bait Perry into a fight.
A scrum happened shortly after, but to fans’ disappointment, nothing really happened between Reaves and Perry.
And regarding to Reaves’ hilarious chirp … the understanding between fans seem to be that he actually’s right. That Perry often is a player that never really does anything, and that he’s rarely ”backing it up.”
Perry got the last laugh in the game as well, as the Chicago Blackhawks won the game 4-1. Perry himself scored the goal to make it 2-1, on a breakaway. He celebrated by pointing to the stands, and the Chicago Blackhawks seem to have found something this year.
A lot of the talking has been about hyped-up first-overall Connor Bedard, as he’s recorded three points in four games. But the Blackhawks have started the season great, and after an unexpected win over the Maple Leafs, they’re now 2-2 to start the season.
