Connor Bedard has finally scored his first NHL goal. Bedard had over 20 minutes on the ice in his first-ever NHL game against the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this week, but he didn’t score his long-awaited first goal.
Bedard had an assist in his first contest and looked generally sharp. But he didn’t have to wait all that long for his goal.
In his second NHL game, against the Boston Bruins, Bedard got the puck behind the Bruins’ net with only one thought on his mind.
“I was just like, ‘Don’t screw this up,’” Bedard said per NHL.com.
Bedard managed to tuck the puck into the goal, and it was a dream come true.
Then kind of once it went in a lot of joy, for sure. Yeah, just a moment so many people in the world dream of. I’m very fortunate to be able to be put in this position and get a chance like that.”
The goal was special for Bedard, the Blackhawks, the fans, and his family. Bedard’s parents, Tom and Melanie, and his sister, Madisen, were in Pittsburgh to watch him record his first assist in the league.
They were also in attendance to watch him score his first goal, and it meant a lot to Connor.
“It’s nice to get the first goal with them here and be able to experience it as well,” he said.
Bedard’s family was, of course, thrilled to see him score, and they couldn’t hide how much they rooted for him. After Bedard scored his first goal, he was close to getting another, only stopped by a great save from Linus Ullmark.
When Bedard missed the chance, cameras panned in on Bedard’s parents, and their reaction was absolutely golden.
