Connor McDavid had a season for the ages. He led the league in goals with 64, and he recorded a career-high 153 points, which no one could match. Connor McDavid had three Ted Lindsay awards heading into this year’s NHL Awards, and no one saw another scenario than him winning it a fourth time.
And they were right. McDavid’s record-breaking season earned him another Ted Lindsay, and he, therefore, becomes only the third player in league history to win it four times, joining Wayne Gretzky, who won it five times, and Mario Lemieux.
Connor McDavid also won his third Hart Trophy as NHL MVP after recording the most points in an NHL season since Mario Lemieux’s 161 in 1995-96.
When McDavid was presented with the Ted Lindsay, awarded to the league’s most outstanding player as voted by his fellow players, he went up on the stage to give his acceptance speech, and he couldn’t help chirping Edmonton’s big rivals, the Calgary Flames.
McDavid thanked all the fans in the hockey world, especially those in stadiums he played in this season.
And that’s when he saw an opportunity he couldn’t let slip to take a jab at the Flames.
”Lastly, to all you hockey fans out there — even you Flames fans — you guys bring the energy to all the buildings across the league,” McDavid said.
”It makes it special to play in front of you guys every night.”
When McDavid named the Flames fans, a cheer broke out in the arena, and it was just hilariously done by the superstar.
