Jack Edwards is one of the most polarizing figures around the National Hockey League. He’s the voice of the Boston Bruins, and understandably, Bruins fans love him. He’s passionate like few others on TV, and he’s been around long enough to know what he’s talking about.
But with other fanbases, Edwards isn’t as popular, and a common opinion about him is that he’s perhaps too biased toward Boston.
Earlier this season, Edwards received heavy criticism after slamming Pat Maroon about his weights during a Lightning-Bruins matchup.
He said on air that “inadvertent fasting for Pat Maroon is like going four hours without a meal,” and his body-shaming made fans all around the league stand up for Maroon and up against Edwards.
Edwards later donated $2,000 to charity to help people struggling with mental health and also had a private conversation with Maroon, trying to clear the air.
Since then, things have cooled down a bit regarding Jack Edwards. But on Sunday, what he did on-air caught fans’ attention again, but this time, for a completely different reason.
During a sequence in the game, Jordan Martinook got into a small scrum with several Boston players. The Hurricanes player lost his stick around the Bruins goal, and when he went to pick it up, he was pushed by Dimitri Orlov, as well as goalie Jeremy Swayman, and eventually wrestled to the ice by Charlie McAvoy.
According to the replays, it really didn’t look like Martinook broke any rules, and it sure didn’t look like he deserved a penalty call for what happened. But Jack Edwards thought differently.
When the replay was shown, Edwards started laughing hysterically, and he even clapped his hands at it. On social media, many even raised concerns about his well-being.
”Have another bong toke,” the podcast Spittin’ Chiclets said on Twitter.
Later in the game, Jack Edwards stumbled when trying to say ”Carolina.” It shouldn’t be hard to pronounce, but Edwards just got ”Carli-li, Caro uh, ha, Carolina” out of his mouth.
Of course, Jack Edwards is still a veteran and a pro, and everyone can stumble or make a strange call occasionally. But fans still enjoyed Edwards having a weird night, as the Bruins won 4-3 after shootouts against the Hurricanes.
